We were testing new bolt designs including a cup faced design. The intention was to make it gentler on the paint, but concepts don't always work out as you want...
It turns out that the dimensions we were using were actually "shovelling" up the ball and catching it against the top of the breech as it was fed into the barrel. It led to above normal ball breakage as can be seen in this video.

Simon I have noticed that in most of the video testing that I have seen that the marker is being held in what appears to be a level position. Do you do a lot of testing with the barrel elevated at a say....20 to 30 degree angle?

It depends on what we are testing for. We test for the effects of roll back and ball detents with the gun angled in different ways. Our normal gun stand has about a 10-15 angle to it naturally so that's what most of our testing is done at. We do simulate other situations. Our Ballistics chrono is set up to hold the barrels horizontal for a fair comparison and to make any ballistics a simpler comparison.
Our head to head 50 vs 68 Cal set up was simply bolted down and each barrel checked to be parallel.
