Dear Simon,

I remember seeing your YouTube video about the FN303. You mentioned you had a prototyping machine. Would you be able to recreate Paraordinance Model 85 casings? What would be the minimum quantity and price? There is a huge interest in these.

This is basically a shot in the dark. My research has told me that injection molding may be the best way to replicate these casings.

Warmly,

Smiley

I have a model 85 and did, a very long time ago, look at using some prototyping technologies to make some more for Repoman. Unfortunately I don't think rapidprototyping is the right way to do it.

I do think it may be possible to make a relatively cheap injection molding tool to make them though. The full round is not simple. Would it be just the cases that everyone needs or the metal deflectors etc. too?...

I'll grab one of my shells and take a close look.

I deal with these guys at work and think they are awesome... If you have any experience with them, Simon, I'd like to hear what you think of them. http://quickparts.com/ToolingProduction.aspx If the market isn't large enough to support someone purchasing/making a machine just for these, I think that these guys are the best to deal with. [Instant quoting, for the rapid prototyping stuff, is quite awesome.]

Damn it, I forgot to bring one in with me today.

That company definitely looks interesting. What sort of parts have you had made with them and what were your tooling costs?

An aluminium tool would definitely be an option for making new casings.
